We spent about two hours repairing this section of trail last Saturday as part of a trailwork event at the Crest Ecological Reserve. Five days later I take a hike with the wife and baby only to see what’s been made of our hard work.
Friends don’t let friends ride trails right after the rain.

Unfortunately.it’s a “multi use” trail. This means that one user group maintains the trail (us mountain bikers) while the other user group(s) gets to arrogantley destroy it.
It’ll be ok. We’ll ride it in. They did the same thing last year, and after a couple weeks of multiple users treading on it, it all mellowed out.

Hopefully in working with them we can evolve towards a concept of both multi-use and multi-responsiblity, though one should not be naively hopeful about that.
If you guys can get the post-rain trail closure thing going, that would also be a helpful step in starting to raise their awareness about trail damage.

Horse people don’t maintain trail: they buy it.
